The government of Iran has announced that it is fully prepared for the participation of its national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In a statement to state broadcaster IRIB, government spokesperson - Fatemeh Mohajerani said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has ensured all necessary arrangements for the team’s effective participation in the tournament.
Meanwhile, FIFA President - Gianni Infantino also stated last week that Iran is expected to participate in the upcoming World Cup, taking place from June 11 to July 19, noting that the team has qualified and expressed its willingness to compete despite the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
However, commenting on the matter, US President Donald Trump said in March that while Iran’s team would be welcome at the tournament, he questioned whether it would be appropriate for them to attend, citing concerns over their “life and safety”.
