Buddhist monks & ‘Aloka’ arrive in SL (Pics)

The remaining group of 07 Buddhist monks, including Ven. Pannakara Thero, arrived in Sri Lanka  early this morning (April 21) to participate in the 10-day Walk of Peace.

The globally recognised dog ‘Aloka’ has also arrived in the country for the peace walk.

The internationally renowned Walk for Peace pilgrimage programme is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from today (April 21) to 28, 2026, under full state patronage.

The procession will also carry a sacred Bodhi sapling obtained from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, led by Ven. Pannakara Thero and the Maha Sangha.

Several state and private institutions, including the Presidential Secretariat, the Clean Sri Lanka programme, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the tri-forces, the Police, and the National Design Centre, are supporting the initiative.

During the walk, Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage, traditional crafts, and cultural performances are expected to be showcased to the public.
