Australia assisting probe into payment irregularities

The Australian High Commission in Colombo says that Sri Lankan authorities are coordinating with Australian officials who are assisting the ongoing probe with regard to irregularities in payments owed by Sri Lanka to the government of Australia.

In a X post, the High Commission adds that the government of Australia remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts to return to debt sustainability.

The statement comes after the Sri Lankan government announced that complaints have been filed with law enforcement agencies following a cyber theft incident involving unauthorised access to the computer system of the Department of External Resources under the Ministry of Finance.
