Today (April 21) marks 07 years since the devastating Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka.
Religious services have been organized in churches across the island to remember those who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured and affected by the tragedy.
According to the Director of Mass Communication for the Catholic Church - Rev. Fr. Jude Krishantha Fernando, special commemorative programmes are being held in all churches this morning.
These include the tolling of bells, a two-minute silence, the lighting of candles or oil lamps, and prayer services in memory of the victims.
The main memorial ceremony will be held at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, Colombo, presided over by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
Police have announced that a special traffic plan will be in effect in the vicinity of the shrine, with vehicle movement restricted intermittently from 7.00 a.m. until the conclusion of the service.
Meanwhile, a special service will also be held at St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya.
In addition, a special procession calling for justice for the victims will commence today.
The procession, led by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith along with Catholic clergy, religious leaders, and devotees, will begin at Maris Stella College at 4.00 p.m. and proceed to St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya.
