Reports claiming that Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malclom Ranjith is to resign, are fake, says spokesman for the Sri Lankan Catholic Church Fr. Jude Krishantha.
“Decisions pertaining to Archbishops are made by the Vatican. Though the procedure of the Catholic Church is that a Cardinal has to retire when he reaches the age of 80, the final decision is made by the Pope,” Fr Krishantha has clarified.
Fr. Krishantha had added that although Cardinal Ranjith will reach 80 next year, no official decision has been made on his retirement.
