Gampaha Chief Magistrate, Bandula Gunaratne, has issued a foreign travel ban order preventing 07 police officers from leaving the country.
The police officers also include former OIC of the Western Province North Crime Division.
The order was issued based on a request made by Chief Inspector R.G.C. Padumasiri of the Western Province North Crimes Division, in connection with an ongoing investigation.
According to police, intelligence information indicates that the relevant officers had been involved with drug traffickers based abroad and had facilitated narcotics-related transactions.
The police further informed the court that they had received tip-offs suggesting that 03 kg of cocaine seized during a raid in the Bollatha area of Ganemulla had been smuggled by a constable who participated in the raid.
Accordingly, the foreign travel ban has been imposed on former OIC of the Western Province North Crime Division - Chief Inspector Linton de Silva, and officers Kasun Subhashana, Ranjith Ranasinghe, Manoj Piyadarsana Hewawasam, Tharaka Madhuranga Abeykoon, Kolitha Lakmal Rajapaksa, and Terrence Cedric Peiris.
