MP - Ramanathan Archchuna has been arrested by Ilavalai Police this morning (April 27).
The arrest was made over the allegations of criminal intimidation involving the brandishing of a firearm, as well as criminal trespass.
Acting Police Media Spokesman - ASP Minura Senarath stated that the MP is scheduled to be produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court.
The incident relates to a dispute that had taken place on April 25 in the Periyavilaan area of Jaffna, where the MP allegedly threatened a woman while carrying a firearm during a land-related confrontation.
Police said there is an ongoing court case regarding ownership of the land in question.
The MP claims ownership of the land, while a woman has also filed a claim asserting rights over the same property, according to reports.
It is reported that on April 25, while the MP was engaged in clearing activities on the disputed land, 02 women arrived at the location and claimed ownership of a portion of the land, leading to a heated argument.
