MR’s CSO granted bail

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (Oct. 31) ordered the release on bail of Neville Wanniarachchi, Chief Security Officer to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Wanniarachchi was arrested and remanded by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on suspicion of illegally acquiring assets and properties worth Rs. 28 million.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama ordered to release Wanniarachchi on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each after considering facts presented by CIABOC officials and the suspect’s lawyers.

Additionally, an overseas travel ban was also imposed.

The case is to be taken up again on Jan. 16.
