Celebrations of the 79th Indian Independence Day was held in Colombo today morning (Aug. 15).
The flag hoisting ceremony and celebrations were held at the India House under the auspices of High Commissioner – Santosh Jha, which was attended by the Indian diaspora in Sri Lanka.
The event had a special feature by the Sri Lanka Navy Band who played ‘Vande Mataram’ & ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’. Dance performances by students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) had also added colour.
The theme for Independence Day 2025 is “Naya Bharat”.
The High Commissioner and officials of the High Commission of India also paid tributes to the memory of Indian soldiers at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) Memorial in Sri Lanka.
