Vice Chairman of China’s Sinopec Group – Lv Lianggong, has assured Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs – Vijitha Herath, that the new oil refinery in Hambantota will begin without delay.
According to the minister, the pledge came during a meeting held at the ministry in Colombo today (Oct. 15) with a 10-member delegation.
The proposed project, estimated at USD 3.7 billion, is expected to produce up to 200,000 barrels per day once operational.
Mr. Lv has noted that the project is crucial to both countries.
The minister in return, had emphasised to rapidly resolve long-standing challenges hindering the project.
